Wildwood Final Trailer Reveals Laika’s Darkest Adventure Yet
Laika is getting ready to bring its latest stop-motion adventure to theaters, and the newly released final trailer offers a closer look at the mysterious and dangerous world waiting inside Wildwood.
The studio’s sixth feature-length stop-motion film follows Prue McKeel, a determined teenager whose life changes when her baby brother is taken by a group of crows. With no intention of leaving him behind, Prue ventures into the Impassable Wilderness, an enchanted forest hidden on the outskirts of Portland, Oregon.
She is joined on the rescue mission by Curtis Mehlberg, her loyal but somewhat inexperienced classmate. What begins as an attempt to find Prue’s brother soon turns into something much larger, as the two discover a strange world populated by talking animals, criminals, and powerful figures with their own competing agendas.
The deeper Prue and Curtis travel into the forest, the more complicated their mission becomes. The wilderness is caught in a conflict that threatens its delicate balance, forcing Prue to confront forces that could ultimately shape the future of Wildwood itself.
A New Stop-Motion Adventure From Laika
Wildwood is based on the acclaimed novel by Colin Meloy, with illustrations by Carson Ellis. The adaptation is directed and produced by Travis Knight, who previously worked on Laika’s Kubo and the Two Strings, while Chris Butler wrote the screenplay.
The film brings together a large voice cast featuring Mahershala Ali, Awkwafina, Angela Bassett, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, Amandla Stenberg, Jemaine Clement, Maya Erskine, Tantoo Cardinal, Tom Waits, Richard E. Grant, Len Cariou, Marc Evan Jackson, and Rob Delaney.
Caleb Deschanel is the cinematographer, while composer Dario Marianelli provides the film’s musical score.
When Does Wildwood Come Out?
Wildwood will have its U.S. premiere as the opening-night film at the 40th AFI FEST on October 21. The festival appearance comes shortly before the movie’s nationwide theatrical release.
Fathom Entertainment is handling the theatrical distribution of Wildwood in the United States. The movie arrives in theaters across the country on October 23 and will also be shown in selected premium formats, including 4DX, D-BOX, and Dolby Cinema where available.
The final trailer gives viewers a better sense of the film’s blend of fantasy, adventure, and darker themes while introducing more of the mysterious forces surrounding Prue’s journey.
Wildwood opens in U.S. theaters on October 23.
