Jefferson White Brings Jimmy Hurdstrom Back for Marshals Season 2
Fans of Yellowstone will soon see another familiar character in the franchise’s expanding universe. Jefferson White is set to return as Jimmy Hurdstrom in the second season of CBS’s Marshals, where the actor will once again play the former Yellowstone ranch hand.
White says he is looking forward to stepping into the world of Marshals and continuing to explore its version of the American West. He also praised the show’s cast and creative team, adding that Jimmy’s long journey makes his return especially meaningful.
Jimmy has been one of the recurring figures throughout Yellowstone’s original run. White appeared in more than 40 episodes spanning all five seasons, making him one of the relatively small group of performers who were present both when the series began in 2018 and when it concluded in 2024.
Jefferson White’s Career Beyond Yellowstone
White had already built an extensive television résumé before joining Yellowstone. His earlier credits include recurring and guest roles in Chicago P.D., Blindspot, House of Cards, How to Get Away With Murder, and The Americans.
After his run on Yellowstone, the actor continued appearing on television, including guest appearances on Blue Bloods and The Hunting Party. He also had a recurring role during the final season of You.
Who Is Jimmy Hurdstrom?
Viewers do not need to know Yellowstone in detail to follow Marshals, but Jimmy’s appearance gives longtime fans another connection to the original series.
Jimmy began Yellowstone as a troubled young man with a history that could have led him further into criminal activity. His grandfather asked John Dutton to intervene, eventually bringing Jimmy to the Yellowstone ranch.
Rip Wheeler gave Jimmy a difficult choice: accept the Yellowstone brand and commit himself to ranch life, or deal with the authorities. Jimmy chose the ranch and gradually began changing his life.
His transformation was far from easy. Jimmy discovered a passion for rodeo, although his attempts at becoming a professional rider repeatedly ended with serious injuries. His relationship with barrel racer Mia also became an important part of his story, although the two eventually went their separate ways.
John later sent Jimmy to Texas and the 6666 Ranch, hoping the experience would teach him more about the traditions and responsibilities of being a cowboy. His personal life eventually took another turn when he met Emily, and the two ultimately married.
Jimmy’s Return to the Yellowstone Universe
His appearance in Marshals opens another chapter for the character and creates a new connection between the CBS series and Yellowstone. Exactly how Jimmy fits into the story and what has happened in his life since his last major appearance remain to be seen.
Marshals stars Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton alongside Logan Marshall-Green as Pete “Cal” Calvin, Arielle Kebbel as Belle Turek-Skinner, Ash Santos as Andrea Cruz, Tatanka Means as Miles Kittle, Brecken Merrill as Tate Dutton, Mo Brings Plenty as Mo, and Gil Birmingham as Thomas Rainwater.
Season 2 of Marshals premieres Sunday, October 4, at 8:30/7:30c on CBS. The new episodes will also be available to stream the following day on Paramount+.
The first look at Jimmy’s return gives Yellowstone viewers another reason to tune in, while leaving plenty of questions about what his next chapter will bring.
