Description:
At Underwood Asylum, the mental patients are all from British Columbia's wealthiest families. The families' other members have been dying mysteriously, so Biggs hires private investigator Richard Driver. He sends his assistant, Maybelline, to the asylum posing as his cousin, claiming their family avoided romantic relationships due to genetic concerns. Driver also attempts to get Inspector Clarke to admit him as a narcoleptic who awoke to find himself unresponsive. Everyone is aware of the keeper's actions, but proving it is difficult, especially with the hypnotized Biggs twins and Danny, whom he keeps catatonic with a machine. Inspector Clarke obstructs Driver's investigation, while a seemingly insignificant shoe shiner observes everything with a knowing air.
