Description:
In the 1990s, California importer David Lee Hoffman journeys across China in pursuit of exceptional teas. Having lived in Asia as a youth and shared tea with the Dalai Lama, Hoffman's goal is to find and import the finest hand-picked, hand-processed teas to the U.S. His quest leads him to farms and interactions with Chinese scientists, business leaders, and government officials, all while seeking organically grown tea produced without factory farming. By 2004, Hoffman witnesses success: farmer collectives are selling tea, new avenues for exporting premium tea from China have emerged, and a growing appreciation for organic farming – particularly earthworms – is taking root.
