Description:
Sen no Rikyu (Ebizo Ichikawa), born to a fishmonger, dedicates himself to the art of tea, ultimately shaping the Japanese tea ceremony. His refined aesthetic earns him favor with Toyotomi Hideyoshi (Nao Omori), Japan's most powerful figure, and he becomes one of his trusted advisors. However, political tensions lead Hideyoshi to order Rikyu's death by seppuku. This film, an adaptation of Kenichi Yamamoto's acclaimed novel, has received numerous awards, including recognition at the Montréal World Film Festival, Osaka Cinema Festival, Fumiko Yamaji Cultural Award, and Japan Academy Film Prize in categories spanning art direction, film, and acting.
