Description:
In 1951, Gert, a nurse with grand ambitions, becomes headmistress of a state-run children's home in Greenland. The home is designed for 16 carefully chosen Greenlandic children returning from a year in Denmark, intended to serve as examples of progress within their community. Gert, isolated and driven by a desire to modernize Greenland, believes she can educate these children in Danish language and culture, transforming the island from a traditional hunter society into an integral part of Denmark. Blinded by her faith in the experiment's potential, she overlooks the emotional toll on the children. When both the children and the Danish government disappoint her, Gert's idealistic vision begins to crumble.
