Description:
Using archival photos, animations, and live-action footage, this film examines the history and legacy of Emir Abd El-Kader. The 19th-century Algerian leader was respected by Abraham Lincoln and is still honored today by the Red Cross as a humanitarian. Abd El-Kader, who resisted French forces from 1832 to 1847 and laid the groundwork for an independent Algeria, is now regarded as one of the nation's most important figures. His noble conduct after his capture and his protection of Christians in Damascus earned him respect even from his former enemies. This documentary is presented in dialectal Arabic with narration by Amazigh Kateb.
