Description:
Filmed in the Aurès-Nementchas region at the end of 1956 and in 1957, these war images from the ALN maquis were intended to foster dialogue between the French and Algerians for peace by showing the existence of an armed organization connected to the local population. The film, *Algeria in Flames*, was produced in French, German, and Arabic versions. After its completion, the film circulated uncut worldwide, with its first screening in France taking place in 1968 at the occupied Sorbonne. Certain scenes from the film were used in other films, particularly Algerian productions. The film's impact led to the filmmaker needing to go into hiding for 25 months. Following Algeria’s declaration of independence, he established the first Algerian Audiovisual Center.
