Description:
The film is set in 900 AD and centers on Murasaki Shikibu, a renowned female writer of the era. The narrative follows her life after the death of her husband, a Japanese noble, and her subsequent appointment to train the Prince's young wives. Interwoven throughout are excerpts from her most famous work, *The Tale of Genji*. Genji is a wealthy and charismatic man who repeatedly falls in love, even having a son with his stepmother. He maintains numerous wives who are devoted to him.
