Description:

Bronek Pekosinski, likely 83, lives in Zamosc, Poland, with no family and a hazy sense of his own identity. His entire life story is fabricated: he was born on the day World War II began, his name is an acronym for a charity, and he emerged from a Nazi concentration camp, thrown over the fence by his mother. Even those around him are revealed to be imposters. Only his solitude and a physical hump seem real. Throughout his life, he's been caught between the Roman Catholic Church and a totalitarian regime, leading to alcoholism. Partially paralyzed from a stroke, he now pursues an intense ambition: to become a master of chess.
