Description:
In May 1978, Reinhold Messner and Peter Habeler achieved the first oxygen-free ascent of Mount Everest. The feat raised questions about the physical limits of the human body – could they survive without supplemental oxygen, and what risks did they face? Messner stated he wouldn't attempt Everest with oxygen, considering it not a true challenge. This film, expertly captured by Leo Dickinson and Eric Jones (with Messner documenting the climb with a cine camera above the South Col), details Messner and Habeler’s experience and thoughts throughout the journey. The film follows their route from Namche to Base Camp, through the dangerous Icefall, up to Camps I, II, and III, and includes historical footage of the early expeditions led by Mallory and Shipton.
