Sideshow
5/10 by Sierbahnn May 1, 2026
There are certainly some tropes on display in this movie, but tropes are tropes because they work, and they work in this movie too. The characters are relatable enough to be engaging, and the tension is therefore a bit more interesting than if they were just random strangers subjected to scary things. The ringmaster is of course the highlight of this show, and he pulls this off magnificently.…

Book of Blood
5/10 by Sierbahnn May 1, 2026
This is nowhere near as good or as though-out as the 2020-version. This narrative-within-a-narrative is not a draw, the story meanders at times and then tries to rush tension. The characters are not really compelling, and thus the tension is missing. The casting is decent and the direction is good, but that's not enough to live up to the later version, which showed how to utilize this potential better.…

Run Hide Fight
4/10 by Sierbahnn May 1, 2026
The politics of the writers of this movie are atrocious, and the abominable nature of their political belief shines through in a very heavy handed way. The subject matter is touchy and warrants more consideration than this pastiche and useless parody of a movie. The movie is well produced, but that in no way saves it from being itself. It is still a political drama pop piece, and it leaves a very bad taste in your mouth. I think that's why you should avoid this piece of "entertainment".…

The Rutles: All You Need Is Cash
8/10 by Sierbahnn May 1, 2026
It is strange how there are so very very few movies about the the Rutles. They were so instrumental in forming modern music and yet there is only this and a single other movie made about them. It is strange and almost Mandela-effect-esque that there aren't more made, every year, in fact, about these titans of entertainment. The movie itself is stunning, with music in world class, naturally, and in-depth looks into the lives of these icons. I can wholeheartedly recommend it.…

undertone
4/10 by Sierbahnn May 1, 2026
The scares do not engage in this movie. It is understated, but far too much to actually pull you in. And since the characters are not worth engaging with, you don't care enough about them to build any true stakes. No true stakes means there can be no true horror. The cast is well directed, but it is too slow to hold interest, and even the ending is a bit of a convoluted mess. I would not recommend this.…

Project Hail Mary
8/10 by Sierbahnn May 1, 2026
This movie is not perfect, but is is tense, and abstract, and deeply funny. It is essentially a one-person narrative with some cgi to act with, and Ryan pulls it off well. The story is strange and intriguing, as is the companion protagonist, making the movie very enjoyable. It is just a fun sci-fi adventure/buddy-movie, and I can highly recommend it.…

Hypothermia
2/10 by Sierbahnn May 1, 2026
This could have been something a lot better; it has a premise and a setting that shows promise, but it is entirely squandered with a badly realized plot, awful cinematography, and poor directing. The cast does what it can, but they are struggling here. The effects are sup-par, and the reveal at the end is even worse. This was just a disappointment, one you can avoid by not seeing this movie.…

Soldier
7/10 by Sierbahnn May 1, 2026
This is not a masterpiece, but it is a solid action-movie with a fantastic protagonist and a lovely premise and plot. The staging is hokey at points, but it looks good enough, the characters are engaging and the action punchy. Kurt of course steals the show completely, and the character has a great arc. This is well-directed and deserves more credit than it got when it was released.…

Protector
6/10 by Sierbahnn May 1, 2026
The casting for this is not particularly noteworthy, with the exception of the main protagonist, and some of the camera work and writing is a bit underdeveloped. Some of the effects leave a bit to be desired as well, but I don't think that takes away from the enjoyment of this movie. This thing is still on point and the directing is more than adequate for what this wants to convey. It's sort of like Taken and Rambo in a weird mix, and I think that works well enough to be worth the investment of your time.…

Slanted
6/10 by Sierbahnn May 1, 2026
This is a solid teen body-horror, with a great way of conveying its message, lovely twists and engaging characters. The directing is outstanding, the casting on point and the effects understated and working really well. It might lack some of the shock of something like The Substance, but it is a worthy inclusion into your body-horror watchlist, certainly.…
