**These three films try to be "great" and only manage to be "nice."**
The first film was confusing but okay.
The second was rather frustrating.
The last one was a nice ending to the trilogy.
And I think it's a shame that there are no differences in the animation styles of the various characters (from different universes). Only in Part Three were there three Earths animated the way they were styled in their respective series.
It would have been so funny if the characters from specific Earths had been drawn the way they are in their series/films. Then you could…

This is a sequel. It has all the hallmarks of a sequel. And it is not bad at all. It is hokey at times, always over the top, introducing new characters that are far more removed from reality than would have been possible in the first movie. But it is a fun movie, it is well made, looks great, has casting that is spot on, outrageous effects and solid direction. It is a worthy sequel, for sure.…

Unlike movies like The Puppet Master or Chucky, where the doll is are depicted as if real, the elements of this movie are quite surrealistic and absurd. And it lends to the premise in a delightful way, building tension because you cannot predict what might happen next. The characters are memorable and engaging enough, and the effects of the scary stuff is really well executed, building to a fun way to tell an old story and a delight to watch.…

Clearly this is what Francis was aiming to beat when he made his version, and for good reason. There are loads of different Dracula adaptations, and while this is not 100% faithful to the book is conveys the right emotions, and has the right tension. The casting is wonderful and while some of the effects have aged, it is still a lovely movie.…

This is not Crawl. This is not Jaws. This is not Bait. This is just a pale knock-off of either of those more interesting movies. The characters make very little sense, and are not very memorable. The effects are ok, but not anything noteworthy, the direction is flat. This is simply not a very good movie, even though it is well-produced and looks decent. Looking decent is not enough to make a good movie.…

The game is better. This is not as engaging as the Autopsy of Jane Doe, or even other game-adaptations like Exit 8 or Iron Lung. This is more like Five Nights at Freddy's where they try to tack on bits of lore as story and character, and it just comes out flat. And this movie is trying to set up the plot to enjoy a sequel, too. Shame they didn't make the movie itself more interesting. The casting and directing is good enough, the effects are standard, but the plot, writing, the narrative structure, just leaves this feeling dry and boring.…

This is a staple of its genre, and for good reason. It is hokey, it is overacted, the effects are messy, sure, but that does not makes it any less brilliant. While teasing some Lovecraft-story ideas, this is its own beast, and stands on its own legs. The casting is ok, apart from Jeffrey, of course, who is tearing up each and every scene. He is grand in this.…

Although it is not mentioned by name, this is quite clearly The Color out of Space. And Lovecraft is even listed as one of the writers. This is not a bad take on that story, and it makes it a great deal more human than it could have been. I think the casting is quite good, and the direction is clearly very competent. Some of the effects look a bit too watery for my taste, but I think that it came across as unsettling enough. The movie does have its issues, but I believe that this is one of the better takes on this material, and it does make itself very creepy, which is lovely to see.…

What his lacks in story it makes up for in visual flair and spectacle. The casting is solid, the action rightfully over the top and the direction very solid. The relationship between the two main protagonists is a bit convoluted, and hard to relate to, but the movie gets on well without their bond being that well worked out. The ending is fittingly bonkers. It is fun, if not the most substantial movie you will see.…

This movie set a lot of ground for other horror movies and did a lot of heavy lifting. The overt religious themes might have aged poorly. But the character work and the effective use of the flashbacks and dream sequences make this movie still work as a vehicle for tension. It is a very good horror movie with a great cast and lovely direction and a legacy that you really can't deny.…
