Whenever we stumble upon another one of those infamous direct-to-video Disney sequels, expectations usually hit rock bottom, to say the least. This is a teen sex comedy that finally feels like it exists in the same universe as actual high school in real world. Where Porky's (1981) was crude, cartoonish, and embarrassingly detached from reality, with a pack of horny incels orbiting one token slut while treating girls like an alien species, American Pie gets it refreshingly right. It presents horny teenagers who are still human. The girls aren't props or fantasy objects; they're normal, articulate, and sexually curious without descending into caricature. They talk more like normal people, not like brain-dead incels in Porky's. …

American Ultra is not fiction. The movie is based on MK Ultra secret experiments by CIA to make unaware people become secret assassins performed by psychiatrists using drugs and hypnosis on victims. MK Ultra was exposed to the public in 1974 by a New York Times investigative report written by journalist Seymour Hersh. The movie itself is a good action comedy about government conspiracy. This drama has EVERYTHING — heart, mystery, comedy, action, emotion, and characters that completely pull you into their world from the very first episode. Every episode leaves you wanting more. The chemistry between the cast is electric, the storytelling keeps you hooked, and the balance between humor and emotional depth is done so beautifully. OK, so given my age, this series is definitely not aimed at my demographic. Having watched Trek since the late 1960's, I could live with that to an extent, but the problem is, it's just not that well done either. There is a casual, one might say lack-a-daisical, feel to the whole thing, exemplified by the way Holly Hunter plays her role. There is something about stories set in outer space that make me feel hopeful of the possibilities of this outer space film productions that science fiction directors often hint at. This was definitely an incredible experience that I would go as far to compare to the experience I had watching Interstellar. Gosling and Huller have incredible chemistry in this and look to be conternders for next years academy awards despite the films early release.
