Enjoyable and refreshing. There's a lot of police movie tropes that people revert to when writing their scripts. There's a certain amount of side characters, plots and twists you can introduce. This movie does something interesting with all of that and while the execution isn't flawless, it's still a very entertaining movie and its casting is phenomenal. Parts of the movie are unbecomingly dark, which takes away from the action on screen as you simply cannot observe it. I actually had quite high hopes for this as "Jerry" tries to steal his way into a museum crammed full of ancient Chinese artefacts while "Tom", the trainee security guard, tries to keep him out! This speaks of its roots, and represent them fairly This is a 70s buddy-cop movie, after a fashion, just 40-odd years late to theaters. Our two leads are of course stand-outs in this, and do a fantastic job, but they also have great supporting cast, and noone really falls flat. I went into this expecting something like Face/Off – maybe even a Korean-style remake. But despite some obvious similarities, Devils definitely goes its own way and ended up surprising me with a twist I genuinely didn’t see coming. For anyone who enjoys blood, brutality, and violent movies, there’s plenty of gore here. On top of that, the lead actors do a really solid job and make their characters believable. This could have been a good movie. There are some fun moments in it and the special effects and the action is pretty good. The biggest problem I have with this movie is that the realization of the story is the typical Pedowood crap where everyone is dysfunctional. Amazed by the positive reviews of this thing. If you enjoy spending the first 20 or so minutes of a movie listening to a bunch of pretentious posers try and fail to act tough, combined with a basic, rather implausible back story, you'll love this. If you love absurd, contrived action that's wholly unbelievable, you'll love this. If you like your action to be gritty, realistic, unpretentious, at least a little intelligent and down to earth, you'll most likely hate it, as I do.
