The trailer is terrifying but the film is terrifyingly slow ...they doled out tiny little bits of information, along with a few scary bits, so they could stretch it out for 90 minutes. Frodo! Say it ain't so!! Actually, far from being typecast, Elijah Wood has grabbed quite a variety of roles including this one as a totally psychopathic - but likable - manikin maker and does a fantastic job. In a house containing a slaughtered family, a nude female half buried in the basement is discovered. Then things get really strange when the autopsy begins. A completely original atmospheric piece that totally creeped me out ...which isn't easy to do anymore. The slow but progressive series of unnerving events without any real explanation as to what's happening until practically the end was well done and left me wondering, "What could possibly happen next"? "Tales from the Darkside" was a fairly entertaining, tongue-in-cheek, horror anthology TV series. For a movie, however, you'd think they would have turned it up a few notches ...especially with the talent backing up the writing. But, basically what we have here is 3 stories that are no different than watching 3 episodes of the TV show. A fictionalized (but fairly accurate with the main points) depiction of the short career of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow as notorious bank robbers and killers during the depression years of the early 30's. All the actors in this did stupendous jobs giving their characters a wealth of personality, humor, and depth making them likable and someone to cheer for despite their sociopathic ruthlessness. A professional mercenary is brought back from the dead using a medical technique developed by the company he works for. Unfortunately, it only gives him 24 hours and the company finds that it probably wasn't a good idea to bring him back. A exceptionally well made film with a realistically presented story, despite the unrealistic premise, excellent performances from both Ethan Hawke and Qing Xu, and some absolutely stellar, brilliantly choreographed action and gun fight sequences. Australian production "Scurry" offers up a claustrophobic, survivalist horror.
Confined underground spaces, tight tunnels, the stuff of nightmares for many of us, are as much a core aspect of what makes this film uncomfortable and nerve wracking, as the horrific over sized bugs, that pursue the protagonists. You could say this is a giant ant farm where people have been dropped in and must now escape.

Ok, so perhaps some of the claims made in the narration about some of the stars featured here are a bit optimistically speculative, but it still manages to use some very well researched archive and the benefit of hindsight to portray a sort of “Hollywood Babylon” approach to a century of gay Hollywood film-making. Starting way back, pre-code, with films from the likes of Cecil B. I have to admit that I was completely unaware that San Francisco mayor George Moscone was also shot on the same day as Harvey Milk, nor that both were shot by a fellow city supervisor in their offices at City Hall - Dan White.
