Description:

In 2000, the death of her husband prompts Ruth to observe strict Jewish mourning customs, confusing her children. A visitor arrives – Ruth’s cousin, bearing a photograph of Ruth as an eight-year-old in Berlin with a woman who helped her escape. Hannah, Ruth's daughter who is engaged to a non-Jewish man, travels to Berlin to find Lena Fisher, now 90 years old. Posing as a journalist researching intermarriage, Hannah interviews Lena, who recounts a pivotal week in 1943 when Jewish husbands of Aryan women were held in a building on Rosenstrasse. The women would gather daily, hoping for news of their husbands. The film alternates between Ruth and Lena’s stories, raising the question of how this revelation will impact Hannah.
