Description:
In 1942, young Jewish girl Misha, her Russian mother Gerusha, and German father Reuven hide from the Germans in a small house in the Ardennes, Belgium. Her mother tells her that if someone ever asks her to follow them, she should do so without hesitation. When her parents are captured by the Nazis, Misha is sent to live with a German family, where the harsh matriarch mistreats her. She finds kindness with Ernest and his wife Marthe, who supply groceries to the foster family. Misha befriends Ernest's dogs, and he gives her a compass, telling her her parents were sent to forced labor in the East. After the couple is denounced and arrested by the Germans for sheltering her, Misha flees into the woods, heading east in search of her parents.
