The Green Paddle (2004)

In the summer of 2003, 23-year-old Beau Miles undertakes a solo kayak trip around three island chains off Australia's southern coast over two months. Originally released in 2005 and re-edited for YouTube in 2018, the film follows Beau’s journey as he navigates open water with limited experience, facing near capsizes and challenging conditions while covering up to 40km daily. Equipped with a homemade camera mount, roof racks, a yellow kayak, and plenty of sunscreen, his trip is about personal discovery as much as reaching his destination. As he travels independently from mainland Australia, Beau realizes that sea kayaking and minimalist travel offer him the most fulfilling way of life.
