Description:
Kiku-chan to Ookami, like many Sensou Douwa specials, adapts a short story by Nosaka Akiyuki. The story unfolds in Manchukuo, a Japanese puppet state in China, during the final days of World War II. Japanese colonists experience a peaceful life, untouched by the hardships faced in Japan. However, on August 9, 1945, the Soviet Union declares war and invades, fulfilling its commitment to the Western Allies. The Japanese Kwantung Army collapses quickly, leaving the colonists vulnerable to both Russian and Chinese forces.
