Summer 2004. While on a road trip through Eastern Europe, Pavla Fleischer meets and falls for Eugene Hutz, the singer of the New York band Gogol Bordello. Drawn to his energy and music, she decides to make a film about him. "The Pied Piper of Hutzovina" follows Eugene and Pavla as they travel together through Ukraine. Pavla seeks to rekindle a lost romance, while Eugene aims to reconnect with his heritage and find musical inspiration in his gypsy roots. This intimate portrait explores a filmmaker’s passion and a musician’s longing for the past, as their journey tests their relationship and changes how they see the music they both cherish.
