Karl Edward Wagner was a highly respected dark fantasy and horror writer in the 1970s and 1980s, though largely unknown to those outside his dedicated fanbase. He is best known for creating the iconic antihero warrior Kane and for writing several psychologically unsettling horror stories, always with a distinctive and chilling viewpoint. A physically imposing man who resembled his swordsman Kane, Wagner tragically died in 1994 from alcohol-related causes, ending the career of a writer who deserves recognition as a legend of weird fiction. This documentary features Wagner’s family, friends, and fellow writers such as Ramsey Campbell, Peter Straub, and Dennis Etchison, who examine the life of the Last Wolf – a dark visionary whose work, like Kane, endures through time.
