Description:
Against the backdrop of Namibia's 1990 independence, Desiree Kahikopo's historical romance journeys back to 1963, shortly after the 1959 uprising in Old Location, a segregated area for black residents of Windhoek, then a South African territory. There, Sylvia Kamutjemo, a black domestic worker, encounters Afrikaner police officer Pieter de Wet during a routine passbook check. Their correspondence blossoms into a story of forbidden love, and Kahikopo explores a lesser-known period of Namibian history with sensitivity and optimism.
