Captain Vašátko of the criminal police and Horác, a painter, bohemian, and amateur detective, investigate the murder of Kristián Vích, an author known for his computer poems. Vích, a popular mathematician nearing forty, was secretly involved with Tereza, the wife of a colleague, and they were planning to divorce and be together. But Vích's mother had different plans for him and his colleagues' favorite. When Vích's body is discovered in the river, the killer remains unknown.
