Description:
In the 1930s, a religious movement known as the Korpela movement, or Siikavaara sect, emerged in northern Sweden. Laestadian preacher Toivo Korpela was displaced by Sigurd Siikavaara and returned to Finland. Siikavaara, who promoted apocalyptic beliefs and intense rituals, quickly gained a large following, becoming their primary prophet. With Artur Niemi as a second prophet, they incorporated complete sexual freedom into their practices. During the 1939 trial, Siikavaara claimed to have been intoxicated for eight years. He repeatedly chanted a litany of names, including "Saatana, Saatana, Helvettin, Babylon, Perkele," while swearing and cursing throughout his testimony.
