Description:
Anne Hamilton-Byrne was a captivating woman with a dangerous delusion: she believed herself to be the reincarnation of Jesus Christ. Leading an apocalyptic group called The Family, she gained prominence in Melbourne from the 1960s to the 1990s. Along with her husband Bill, she gathered many children – some through fraudulent adoptions, others born to cult members – and raised them as her own. Shielded from the world, the children wore identical clothes, had matching blonde hair, and were reportedly subjected to physical abuse, starvation, and LSD injections. Told Hamilton-Byrne was both their mother and savior, they were rescued by police in 1987, but the lasting effects of their ordeal were profound.
