Description:
Oei, later known as Katsushika Oi, was the third daughter of the renowned Edo painter Katsushika Hokusai and his second wife. Though she married a town painter, her passion for painting led her back to her father's home. There, she began assisting him with his work on the "insurmountable high wall." She confides in Ikeda Zenjiro, Hokusai's student, now famous as the ukiyo-e artist Keisai Eisen, who admires Hokusai and shares a close, friendship-like bond with Oei. Oei supports her father's artistic endeavors, deeply respecting his work. She is present when Hokusai completes his masterpiece, Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji.
