Description:
Director Jon Brewer's hour-long documentary explores the little-known passion of film icon Steve McQueen: desert motorbike racing and his hidden talents. The film reveals McQueen's obsession with motorbikes and the creation of a racing bike, a result of his friendship with stunt double Bud Ekins and their collaboration on the movie 'The Great Escape'. Sharing a love for motorbikes, they worked together at Bud's shop in California, modifying and improving bikes. This led to the idea of combining a Metisse frame with a Triumph engine for a new track racer. McQueen then brought the design to England, where he connected with the Rickman brothers of Metisse motorbikes, resulting in the 'Desert Racer'.
