On June 7th, 1986, Prince performed for a large audience at Detroit’s Cobo Arena to celebrate his 28th birthday. The concert was recorded and edited for broadcast in Europe and Japan as promotion for his 1986 Parade tour, which visited eight countries in under a month. Prince opted to preview the tour in select U.S. cities before taking it internationally, so it never officially played in the United States. However, videotapes of the Detroit performance have been shared among Prince fans for years and recently became available online, offering a glimpse of what many consider one of Prince’s most energetic tours.
