Born in the Philippines, you grew up without access to science education. An American university offered you a place to continue your studies, and you accepted, excelling in the field of avian evolution. However, you constantly felt homesick. Tragedy struck when you lost your first wife and son, events you attribute to your scientific pursuits. Returning to the Philippines with your degree, you discovered devastating environmental destruction: forests burned, seas polluted.
