Description:
Widowed Ma-nim arrives in Bukgando seeking a new marriage, finding a handsome and wealthy husband who is tragically killed by the Japanese before they even consummate the union. Alone again in the large house, she is left with only her late husband’s grandfather and his slave, Bau. Ma-nim becomes increasingly aware of Bau's intense stares, stirring unfamiliar feelings within her. Bound by societal expectations and two brief marriages, she struggles to suppress her desires. Bau, who has never experienced love with a woman, seems unfazed by her presence. A forbidden romance blossoms between the two of them, hidden from the grandfather.
