This is part of the Tutto Verdi series, featuring Verdi's opera *La Traviata* (2007), filmed in Parma. *La Traviata*, meaning 'The Fallen Woman,' is a three-act opera with an Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave. It's based on Alexandre Dumas, fils' play *La dame aux Camélias*, which itself was adapted from a novel. Originally titled *Violetta*, after the main character, the opera premiered on March 6, 1853, at the La Fenice opera house in Venice. Piave and Verdi intended to set the opera in a contemporary setting, following Dumas' work, but the La Fenice authorities required a historical setting, around 1700. It wasn't until the 1880s that productions reflected the composer and librettist's original vision of a realistic setting.
