Description:
Denias lives in the shadow of the Jayawijaya Mountains and attends a school in a hilltop cottage run by Pak Guru, a teacher from Java. Pak Guru sees Denias' potential and encourages him to pursue his education, believing he could become a mathematician. A soldier named Maleo further motivates Denias to journey across the mountains to a better school. Denias undertakes a ten-day solo expedition to find it. He loses his sleeping bag in a river and collapses from exhaustion. Upon reaching the school, he faces the challenge of being accepted, as the Freeport Company that runs it restricts admission to the children of chiefs or nearby tribes.
