Description:
Mozart's celebrated opera, *The Abduction from the Seraglio*, unfolds within the opulent walls of Topkapi Palace, the Ottoman sultan's harem in Istanbul. Belmonte searches for his fiancée Konstanze and her maid Blondchen, who have been captured by pirates and are held in the Mediterranean seraglio of Pasha Selim. Belmonte's servant Pedrillo secures him work as a builder. After Selim attempts to force himself on Konstanze, Pedrillo and Blondchen plan an escape, managing to intoxicate Osmin, the pasha's chief steward. Despite this, they are captured in the garden. However, their heartfelt demonstration of love moves Pasha Selim, who ultimately grants them their freedom.
