Set during World War II in Turkmenia, this social drama follows the deportation of Soviet citizens of German origin to Siberia, separating families and leaving children behind. Six-year-old Georg finds himself alone in his abandoned village, facing the harsh realities of survival: finding food, caring for his ailing friend Yashka, and burying his Aunt Lisa. Despite the horrific circumstances, Georg maintains an innocent spirit, clinging to a belief in a childhood angel and creating a home for it in a tree. Miraculously, someone occasionally leaves food for him in the nest – a glass of milk, an ear of corn.
