Heavenly Voices explores the history of castrati – male singers whose voices were castrated to prevent puberty – and how some of the most talented became internationally famous. Stars Max Emanuel Cencic and Philippe Jaroussky discuss Baroque opera, using period paintings and prints alongside modern performances to illustrate their points. The film features interviews with prominent countertenors, including Jochen Kowalski, Andreas Scholl, David Daniels, Daniel Behle, and Valer Barna-Sabadus, performing in iconic roles.
