Description:
Carmine Gallone and Amleto Palermi's 1926 film *The Last Days of Pompeii* vividly depicts the destruction of the ancient city buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, presented in striking color tinting. Based on Edward Bulwer-Lytton's romance, the movie was groundbreaking for its special effects and a significant commercial success. A beautifully restored version was created using photochemical methods in the mid-1990s by Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia-Cineteca Nazionale, with its premiere shown in Pompeii and later at the 'Il Cinema Ritrovato' festival in Bologna in 1998.
