Description:
"Samarang" presents a story of Ahmang (Captain A.V. Cockle), a poor fisherman, and Sai-Yu (Theresa Seth), a woman from a higher social class, who both live in the village of Samarang on the Indian Ocean. To win Sai-Yu's hand, Ahmang agrees to a dangerous proposition from Chang-Fu, who is recruiting pearl divers. He ventures into the perilous Forbidden Lagoon of Sakai, facing cannibals, sharks, and a giant octopus. Sai-Yu and Ahmang’s brother Ko-Hai join him. Ahmang finds a pearl, but he and Sai-Yu are stranded on an island where they meet an orangutan. Returning to the boat, they witness Ko-Hai's death at the hands of a shark, prompting Ahmang to seek revenge.
