Description:
This film is the culmination of over two years of research, uncovering archival footage and firsthand accounts from people who knew Mobutu in Africa, Europe, and the U.S. The filmmakers have reviewed over 950 hours of material. The final film uses 104 hours, including 30 hours of newly discovered archives from Kinshasa that have never been seen before. These documents are supplemented by over 50 hours of interviews with those close to Mobutu and those who witnessed his rule, filmed by the director in Kinshasa, Brussels, Paris, and Washington. The film assembles a complex historical picture of the country and its leader, the dictator Mobutu Sese Seko, known as the "King of Zaïre."
