Description:
This film chronicles the changing lives of ordinary Algerians under French occupation and during the war for independence. As military repression intensifies, a peasant woman is left alone in her mountain home after her husband dies in an attack and her son is taken by French soldiers. Disturbed by a bad omen – a dead chicken – she journeys through the mountains, accompanied only by a couple of chickens, desperately searching for her son as she moves from one detention camp to another. The story is drawn from the director's own family history.
