Description:
When economic hardship forces the closure of his opera company, comedian Sang Kwai-lei is left with no choice but to take on the humiliating role of the lion in his former apprentice Chan Hau’s troupe, pawning his own costume to make ends meet. His goal is to fund his elder son Chi-kuen's final year of secondary school. However, Kuen objects to his father sacrificing his pride, and his mother worries. Enraged, Lei instead uses the money for his younger son Chi-wai’s education. Lei loses his job again and begins performing on the streets. His wife takes on sewing work, but falls ill and dies after a long illness. Kuen works to support himself through school, while Wai is forced into an opera troupe as an apprentice. Years later, Lei joyfully welcomes Chi-kuen home from his studies as he approaches death.
