Description:
This film, inspired by Antonio Tabucchi's novel *Notturno Indiano*, presents a series of striking images within a loosely structured story. Peter Schlemihl (Otto Tausig), a concentration camp survivor drawn to India by a photograph, receives a letter from a prostitute in Bombay. She asks him to rescue his friend from a strange illness. He travels to India and discovers his friend has vanished. Following clues left by his friend and drawing on their shared history, Peter journeys to Madras to consult a Theosophist, and then to Portuguese Goa. As he travels, Peter increasingly identifies with his friend, reliving the experiences he must have endured.
