Looking for Lundy (2000)

Colonel Robert Lundy is widely known as the ultimate traitor for betraying the Protestant cause during the siege of Derry in 1688/89. Every December, his effigy is burned to commemorate the victory of Protestant King William over Catholic King James II, and as a warning against future betrayals. Ian Paisley, leader of the DUP, frequently used the name Lundy to criticize anyone seen as compromising in Northern Ireland's peace process. Gregory Campbell of the DUP says this reflects a strong feeling of contempt for those who abandon their principles. But who was the real Lundy, and does his name still hold power in an era where compromise is essential for political progress?
