Description:
"Choi Yuen Village" documents the lives of its residents during the summer and autumn of 2009 as their routines are disrupted by weekly meetings, guided tours, protests, and government consultations. Forced to reflect on their personal histories and the meaning of life, the villagers challenge the notion that protests are solely about financial gain. The film explores a renewed focus on agriculture among Hongkongers, culminating in the peak of anti-high-speed rail protests at the Legislative Council. Ultimately, the railway is approved. In spring and summer 2010, the villagers seek to rebuild their homes and way of life, prioritizing community and harmony with nature. The film asks: what sustains their profound connection to the land and to life itself?
