David McVicar's production of *Le Nozze di Figaro* is set in 1830s France, a time of loss following the revolution. The opera centers on the complex relationship between a charming but self-centered Count and a dignified Countess, which fuels the story's tragedy. The lively connection between Figaro and Susanna is notably absent, while the persistent tension between Marcellina and Bartolo hints at a possible revival. The production features stunning lighting by Paule Constable and evocative sets by Tanya McCallin. Antonio Pappano conducts with wit and emotional power, also performing the recitatives.
