Surf + Turf (2011)

On the Jersey shore today, a mix of secularism, capitalist lifestyles, and strict religious observance creates complex dynamics. Forty thousand Syrian Jews have settled in a region once dominated by Irish, Italian, and a different group of Ashkenazi Jews. This reflects America's small towns as a place where traditions endure alongside modern tensions. The film explores questions of class and Jewish identity in America, drawing parallels to conflicts around the world. It examines how poverty and wealth can both strengthen and divide communities, ultimately asking: how do we address difficult issues when we feel unheard?
