In Seville, Carmen is the most beautiful woman. After being arrested for attacking a friend, she captivates Captain Don José, who helps her escape. He leaves his fiancée, resigns from his position, and deserts the army for her. But when Carmen rejects him for the famous bullfighter Escamillo, how far will his passion take him? Audiences at the 1875 Paris premiere were reportedly shocked by Carmen's strong, independent character. Now, Opéra de Rouen Normandie, with support from Palazzetto Bru Zane, has recreated the original 1875 production of Bizet’s Carmen, including the costumes, sets, and staging.
