Description:
This documentary examines the lives of people living in South Williamsburg, New York, through the stories of five residents. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the neighborhood, known as Los Sures, was among the city's poorest and had been labeled America's worst ghetto. Diego Echeverria’s film portrays the hardships of that era: drug use, gang violence, crime, abandoned buildings, racial tensions, single-parent families, and limited resources. The film also highlights the resilience of the predominantly Puerto Rican and Dominican community, showcasing their cultural strength, creativity, and fight to improve their circumstances.
