Description:
A young woman travels to Belém for the Círio de Nazaré festival, but is lured into prostitution and dreams of relocating to Brazil's wealthier Southeast. While at a nightclub, she meets a truck driver who transports wood. Hoping for a life in the city, she asks him for a ride, and they embark on a journey along the Trans-Amazon highway. The film portrays the social tragedies of the Amazon, including conflict with Brazilian military authorities, deforestation, forced labor, and child prostitution. It received international acclaim but was banned by Brazilian censors, only being released years later and winning the Brasília Film Festival in 1981.
