Description:
Armed soldiers are dispatched to Northeast Brazil to prevent a starving population from raiding a food supply in the arid countryside. As people succumb to hunger-induced hallucinations, a religious leader's prophecies fuel the growing desperation. Meanwhile, a truck driver witnesses the unfolding events and struggles with his loyalty to the soldiers and his anger at the government's inaction in the face of widespread suffering.
